ROME - Vatican officials confirmed Thursday that the new Pope would introduce Selene as the official spiritual mascot of the new pontificate, following prayerful reflection and symbolic resonance with his inaugural themes.

Selene is expected to be formally presented during a vigil at St. Peter’s Square this coming weekend. "She will accompany us in silence, prayer, and discernment," the Pope added.

Though distinct from the Jubilee mascot Luce, who represented the joy of pilgrimage, Selene was praised as “gentle, contemplative, and needed in this time.” The Pope noted she would play a role in upcoming youth and Marian-focused gatherings.

The decision to introduce Selene followed a series of private meditations and conversations with spiritual advisors, who recognized a need for a symbol of inner light and stability amid transition.

Selene’s image had already begun circulating online after a papal homily referencing a mysterious girl with a lantern seen in a dream the night before the conclave. That story, shared widely, resonated especially with young Catholics.

While Luce invites the world to walk in joy, Selene appears in its quiet hours—offering gentle guidance for those still seeking, those keeping vigil, and those walking by faith alone.
